01.04.08 - THE BIG
FAT 2008 UPDATE
Welcome to 2008!
Pro-Gravity Records don’t care about your momma.
Here’s what we got goin’ on.
First of all,
we feel that the internet has effectively put to bed the great debate as to
whether it’s wack or very wack to approximate slang in writing. You never
see us write ‘lol’ ever, though. Except just then. We also predict that
paper dictionaries will one day no longer exist. Also, one day, landfills
will routinely be mined for raw industrial materials.
Second of all
– 2008 finds Pro-Gravity Records in the enviable position of actually
doin’ stuff! 2007 ended with a whiz and a bang – the release of
Truce II
Headrush’s The Enigmatic slid right into the formation of
Heroes for Higher, who rounded out the end of the year with a slew of shows
in and around the CMD area, shoving live-band supplied hip-hop down the
unsuspecting throats of innocently bystanding drunks and other awestruck
individuals throughout
the nation’s 305th poorest out of 318 metropolitan areas!
And all of this on the heels (relatively speaking) of 2006’s
CMD Represent:
Volume I
– the historic first-ever anthology album featuring artists
exclusively from the CMD area!
AND NOW: –
happening in 2008 (in approximately chronological order):
•
TRUCE II
HEADRUSH’s THE ENIGMATIC
continues to take the country by storm!!! We even got a recent message from
Sean Cunnigham, the director of this
karate kid fan
documentary, saying that if the album had been released in time it’s
super smash hit single ‘Miyagi (The Sound Of Karate Kid)’ would definitely,
positively, for sure, 100% have been included in the film!!!! Actually, he
said that he wishes he “knew about the song before he finished cutting” the
film, but tomato/tomato, if you know what I mean, right? Anyway,
The Enigmatic
continues to roll through 2008, and
Truce
has joined with Heroes For Higher in bringing material from the album to the
stage and beyond (more on this below)!!!
•
Bam! A NEW
TREND
ALBUM! In
2003-2004 The Trend rocked the CMD with one of the most devastatingly
memorable series of live shows in regional history and the release of their
eponymous debut
album by none other than little ol’ Pro-Gravity Records. The group
eventually went their separate ways, leaving behind a handful of unreleased
crowd favorites and some of their strongest material. The album, MEET
THE TREND will be released in mid-February 2008 and will feature those
tracks that represent – “a huge step forward in style, production, and song
writing” in the words of Trend frontman
Kenny
Tompkins. Be on the lookout! Also, don’t forget to check
out Trend members’ current projects –
Dan Stevens with Heroes for Higher (more on that later),
Cullen Tierney with
Delilah Why,
Brian Twigg
with
Carry
The Torch, and
Kenny
Tompkins with
Royal Army Recording Company and…
• Zap!
THE
CHRISTMAS LIGHTS.
For those that don’t know,
The
Christmas Lights is the extra prolific
Kenny
Tompkins’ electronic project! The album is called WALK
LIKE A HUMAN and Pro-Gravity is looking at it for a glorious 2008
release! This is some truly unique and ear-catching material if we do say
so ourselves – check for the album and, in the meantime, check out the
Christmas Lights at
The
Christmas Lights’ myspace page!

As long as we’re on new
album talk, let’s parlay a bit about
the THIRD
(wow) big fat album already
slated to be released by Pro-Gravity in 2008!!!
Following up their appearance on
CMD Represents:
Volume I
TODAY’S SPECIAL
hit the studio and finished recording their first album, DOPE JONES –
produced by
Derek
Shank (of Heroes For Higher,
The
Shakedown, and
Distorted
Penguins) and it sounds illmatic. And yep, yep, yep, another slated
release for Pro-Grav in 2008! More news to come…!
aaaaaaaaaaannnnnd…
HEROES FOR HIGHER begins 2008 by hitting the studio! Check for them
to hit the stage again in February at he earliest! It’s the all-star lineup
of Truce II Headrush, Skooch Emcee, Derek Shank, Nick Taylor, Dan Stevens --
could there be an album in the works??? Keep an eye out…
In addition to all the Heroes For Higher action,
TRUCE II
HEADRUSH has been in the studio on the production tip with
SKOOCH EMCEE
and
KING THESIS of
Plan: Be, and
DAN STEVENS of
The Trend
and Heroes For Higher. It’s only a matter of time before these
creations see the light of day… keep an ear out…
Check out
THE
SHAKEDOWN – featuring
Derek
Shank,
Nevets, and Rob Myers formerly of
Distorted
Penguins. They've been blazing stages and squeezing their things
down to perfection in the studio. Also, be sure to check out
GINA POWELL,
whose been in the studio recently as well. Some of CMD’s most promising
new acts, who will hopefully be sucked firmly into the Pro-Gravity family…
keep a… nose?… out?
SKOOCH
EMCEE’s been in the studio on the solo tip. You never know what
might come of that…
All in all, y'all, it looks like a devious, mischievous year for Pro-Gravity
Records!!! More to come, more to come, more to come!!!
Hey, myspace heads – add all these fools!!!
